FOUND AT THE MARKET · THE THURSDAY DISPATCH

Good finds.
Close to home.

Hello friends,

Brownwood has plenty to browse this week: half-off shopping at Hey June, Saturday makers at Davis Floral, and a local collecting couple making room for their next finds. I’ve also tucked in a new vintage booth, a children’s resale opening announcement, and two out-of-town sales for those of us who slow down at the words “quilts” and “vintage glass.”

If you’d rather spend the weekend looking up or looking back, Abilene has balloons and Stephenville has a cemetery history walk. Here’s what’s on the list.

GO · Balloons & local history
SHOP · Half-off finds & local collectors
KNOW · A resale opening & Thursday’s hearing

01 / GO · BROWNWOOD + WORTHWHILE DRIVES

What’s worth doing?

A weekend with your eyes on the sky

Abilene Balloon Fest
Friday–Saturday, November 6–7
2250 E N 10th St., Abilene

The organizer’s plans include balloon activities, food vendors, family activities and live entertainment. It’s the wider-area outing to consider if you’d like a change of scenery with your weekend. Balloon activity depends on conditions, so check the current schedule before making the drive; flights are not guaranteed.

A Sunday walk through local history

Spirits of Erath Cemetery Walk · Stephenville
Sunday, November 8 · Performances at 2 and 3:30 p.m.
West End Cemetery · $10 donation

Friends of the Dick Smith Library hosts its 16th annual cemetery walk. This is a history outing with two afternoon performance times, a good fit for anyone who enjoys hearing the stories behind a place.

02 / SHOP · CURATED WITH A COLLECTOR’S EYE

What’s worth hunting?

Start with a little Brownwood browsing

A local collectors’ clear-out

Locked Vintage · Yellow Rose Estates
Saturday, November 7 · Brownwood area

The local couple behind Locked Vintage is making room, and their advertised mix has personality: vintage glass, textiles and decor, Stephen King books, plush and character collectibles, VHS and other nostalgic finds. This is a private collector sale, with the street address to be posted on sale day. Check their post for hours and the address before leaving.

Saturday makers on Fisk

From Scratch Bazaar · Davis Floral Co.
Saturday, November 7 · 505 Fisk Avenue, Brownwood

A shop-hosted maker market makes an easy addition to a local browsing day. The tourism listing describes handmade goods, art, plants, baked treats and vintage finds; the current vendor mix may vary. Confirm the opening time with Davis Floral, as the listing shows two different starts.

A new booth to poke around

Retro Groove Vintage · inside Junk & Disorderly
1064 W Commerce St., Brownwood
Posted hours: Wednesday–Saturday, 10:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

The announcement’s preview includes amber-colored stemware, owl figures, floral decor and crochet. A new booth to add to your Commerce Street stops; confirm current hours before a special trip.

For local vintage sellers

Red Brick Vintage, 1045 West Commerce, is advertising small-to-large booth spaces for curated vintage and antique pieces. Message Tracey Harmes through the original post for availability and terms.

03 / KNOW · USEFUL AROUND HOME

What’s worth knowing?

A children’s resale announcement downtown

REPORTED OPEN · Duck Duck Goose Resale
112 W. Anderson Street, next to Good Samaritan
Posted hours: Wednesday–Saturday, noon–6 p.m.

A Things To Do In Brownwood announcement reports the children’s resale shop is now open and invites families to bring children’s clothing and baby gear for cash or store credit. Check with the shop about buying guidelines and what it accepts before loading the car. A precise grand-opening date has not been confirmed.

On the agenda this afternoon

PROPOSED · Highway 183 North rezoning

Brownwood’s Planning & Zoning Commission has a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, November 5, at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 501 Center Avenue. The request would change 20.1 acres on Highway 183 North, parcel 80334, from single-family residential to restricted industrial.

This is an opportunity to follow and comment on a proposed land-use change. The commission may recommend action to City Council; the hearing does not establish approval, a future tenant or a construction start.
